Reminder: We're in London for Samsung Unpacked

Heads up -- Phil and Alex are getting geared up and will be live in London for the Samsung Unpacked event tomorrow (May 3 2pm EDT, 11am PDT) where we expect to see what everyone's been waiting to see. No, not Phil taunting a member of the Royal Guard, we're talking about the next phone in the Samsung Galaxy line, presumably the Galaxy S III. Expectations are running high for Samsung's new baby, and the blogs have been on fire with leaks and rumors -- ranging from the interesting to the ridiculous. We'll have all the answers soon enough.

While Alex shows Phil around town, the forums are hopping with discussion. That's where you'll want to be while playing the waiting game. When it's time tomorrow, we'll have a live blog set up and let you know everything there is to know. See you there!

Insert Coin: Genie turns any camera into a world-class time lapse rig

In Insert Coin, we look at an exciting new tech project that requires funding before it can hit production. If you'd like to pitch a project, please send us a tip with "Insert Coin" as the subject line.

New Zealand-based designer Chris Thomson and filmmaker Ben Ryan found that motion-control time lapse gear too expensive, too complicated and too bulky. So they set about building the Genie, a box that moves your camera around under its own power. Designed to be cheap(er than the competition) and user-friendly, the device will let you choose from a variety of presets or build your own to turn and position the camera. It will also draw itself along a guide rope, either on a dolly track or cable-cam for stunning landscape photography. It's reached $42,542 of its $150,000 goal and if successful, each unit will cost $1,000.

The Wanted Move On From Christina And Take Aim At Britney Spears

'[Britney's] bouncers came down with her and told us to face the wall,' says Siva Kaneswaran.
By Gil Kaufman

<P>If you're having trouble keeping the latest wave of British boy bands straight, just remember this one simple trick: <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/wanted_2_/artist.jhtml">The Wanted</a> are the ones who talk tons of smack. </P><P> </P><P>After tearing into <a href="/news/articles/1684009/the-wanted-christina-aguilera.jhtml">"The Voice" coach</a>&#8232; <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/aguilera_christina/artist.jhtml ">Christina Aguilera</a> by calling her a "total bitch" last week, and then <a href="/news/articles/1684084/the-wanted-christina-aguilera-apology.jhtml">kind of apologizing</a>&#8232;, the boys turned their verbal cannons on another ex-Mouseketeer. </P><P> </P><P><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:762692/cp~vid%3D762692%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A762692" width="460" height="260" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed> </P><P> </P><P>Sitting down for <a href="http://fresh1027.radio.com/2012/04/30/britney-spears-puts-the-wanted-in-the-corner/" target="_blank">another radio interview</a> in New York on Monday (their people should really consider keeping the boys off N.Y. radio, just sayin'), the lads opened up about a rather unpleasant interaction with Britney Spears' security team in November. </P><P> </P><P>They said they were personally invited to open Brit's show in Manchester and by all accounts the hook-up went swimmingly, with a cute photo op and a <a href="https://twitter.com/?tw_e=screenname&tw_i=131681568166129664&tw_p=tweetembed#!/britneyspears" target="_blank">follow-up tweet</a> from Spears in which she wrote, "So the boys from @thewantedmusic came to my Wembley show &amp; we hung out backstage! Love them!" </P><P> </P><P>But member Tom Parker revealed that, "We signed a confidentiality thing that we should never say anything about what happened, but let's tell it anyway." That prompted Siva Kaneswaran to open up the legal Pandora's box and spill, "I was in the hallway with me tour manager. Basically we were looking with a laptop, trying to get WiFi ... facing the middle of the hallway. [Britney's] bouncers came down with her and told us to face the wall." </P><P> </P><P>"As Miss Spears is walking through," added Parker. "We're like come on!" But, since they are nice boys, Kaneswaran said, "We turned around and I faced a wall for about 10 seconds until she got really far away." </P><P> </P><P>They didn't wait long to walk this one back a bit, though. Jay McGuiness quickly followed-up with another patented Wanted semi-apology, explaining, "But honestly when we actually met her person to person, she was so down to earth. You can tell she's a total Southern girl and Nathan [Sykes], when he was a kid, won a singing competition. She was one of the judges or something. And she gave him a kiss, it was one of his first kisses as a kid. So he got to meet her again and support her." </P><P> </P><P>Last week, when MTV News' Sway spoke to the boys they were in a similarly feisty mood, with Parker claiming that Justin Bieber had smacked Kaneswaran in his crown jewels when they performed with "Boyfriend" singer. "He [Kaneswaran] came up to me in the dressing room and said, 'Why's he picking on me?'" Parker joked. </P><P> </P><P>As for Spears, at the time, Sykes said, "She's lovely as well. We haven't really met people who aren't very nice and Britney was just very, very nice. She was kind of what you'd expect her to be, very happy and American." And, Parker said, even though her bodyguards were kind of scary, Britney, he said, had "lovely teeth." </P><P> </P><P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/photos/?fid=1617615"><img src="http://www.mtv.com/news/photos/s/spotted/banner/spotted.jpg"></a></p>

A Smart Garment With Life-Saving Implications [Design]

A potentially life-saving hooded bodysuit was debuted over the weekend at the Cornell Fashion Collective, designed by Matilda Ceesay '13, an apparel design major from Gambia. The one-piece garment—hand-dyed purple, gold and blue—features a mesh hood and cape and, as Ceesay explains, "explores and modernizes traditional African silhouettes and textiles by embracing the strength and sexuality of the modern woman." Contour's new mount, watersports kits help bring its cameras with you in the water, snow or dirt

Image

As Contour continues to do battle with GoPro over the action-sport POV camera market, its latest offensive centers around prepackaged activity-specific mount kits that should make it easier for customers to pick one up and go. Also new is an all-in-one ContourRoam watersports kit that includes the HD camera and waterproof case that's capable of keeping it dry at depths of up to 60m. The mount kits include sets for skiers, cyclists, motorcyclists, hikers and an all purpose helmet mount kit. All of these are available starting today on the company's website and at select retailers, with the mount kits going for between $59 - $99 and the Roam Watersports kit for $249. We appreciated the Contour+'s sleek package in our head to head test with the Hero 2 last month and the addition of these packages should help it compete on price and ease of use right out of the box. The specific details are in the press release after the break and pictures of each set are in the gallery below, assuming your hobbies are exciting enough to merit recording, of course.

'Avengers' Soars To Huge Foreign Box-Office Debut

Film breaks records in Mexico, Brazil and other foreign markets a week ahead of its U.S. opening.

The Avengers have already begun their world domination. Marvel's crossover movie opened in 39 foreign markets over the weekend, a week before its scheduled U.S. release, and the records have already started to shatter.

Premiering in only 70 percent of the total foreign territories, "The Avengers" has already earned $178.4 million. That total includes record-breaking opens in Mexico, Brazil, Taiwan, the Philippines, Hong Kong and seven other markets, according to Box Office Mojo. Australia's $19.7 million total was the second-highest opening in that country's history.

The $178.4 million total at the international box office ranks as only the ninth-highest foreign opening ever, but it should be taken into account that large markets like China and Russia won't get "The Avengers" until later this week, the same day it opens in the U.S.

Box Office Mojo predicted that "The Avengers" could end up with $600 million at the foreign box office alone, a figure "The Hunger Games" just passed with its global total.

Early tracking and box-office analysis have already predicted that when "The Avengers" does finally open Stateside, it will be enormous. Several experts have projected a possible domestic opening week of around or above $150 million. That opening would put the film well above the series' best debut, "Iron Man 2," which opened in the summer of 2010 to $128 million.

If "The Avengers" were to open above the $150 million mark, it would then be in contention for one of the highest U.S. opens of all time. The current champ, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2" opened to $169 million last year.
