When DeMarco Murray left the game yesterday many Dallas Cowboys fans began to worry. Not only because Murray is the best Cowboys running back on the roster but because no one has any faith in Felix Jones anymore. However, Jones had a very good game for Dallas yesterday and is now primed to become their leading rusher while Murray is out.
Murray had an MRI?today on his injured foot and the team fears?he has ligament damage and will likely miss time. Right now the Cowboys are officially?calling the injury a foot sprain. The good news on the injury is that is doesn?t appear to be the dreaded lisfranc injury which would have?probably ended Murray?s season.
Murray hurt the foot in the first half of Sunday?s game against the Baltimore Ravens. He returned to the game briefly in the second half for one carry but was taken out and did not return after gaining three yards.
Any way you look at it the Cowboys starting running back is going to miss time and it?ll be up to?Jones and Phillip Tanner to carry the run game until Murray can return.?The Cowboys ran the ball well with all three backs?yesterday and have good enough depth?to survive the loss but hopefully the injury won?t keep Murray out too long. He said he felt like he?could still play but the Cowboys continue to be cautious with their injuries.
Other injuries of note, Sean Lissemore suffered a high ankle sprain and will be out at least four weeks, maybe longer, and cornerback Mike Jenkins had an MRI on the same shoulder he had surgery on this off-season.
The injuries are piling up for the Cowboys, just as they do for every team at this time of year and the Cowboys are lucky to have some depth at running back to carry on. Now we?ll see what Felix Jones is truly worth to this Cowboys team.
